Volunteers at Scotland's Jute Museum at Verdant Works

Return to shortlist

Nominated for Category B: Caring and Protecting - Volunteer-led involvement in saving/restoring heritage sites and buildings.

From the start, Dundee Heritage Trust wanted to ensure that volunteers played a central role in the project to restore a derelict building on the Verdant Works site and create a stunning full-height cathedral-like space for permanent displays, exhibitions and public events. Over 60 volunteers have been prepared to do everything from (literally) getting their hands dirty, cleaning and conserving industrial machinery, to helping deliver an ambitious programme of art installations, musical performances and special themed family days and workshops.
