Shortlisted Category B: Best Rescue of an Historic Building or Place – over £2million

Parkhead School was built in 1878, but by 1963, the building was no longer needed for education. It became empty in 1990 and subsequently languished on the Buildings At Risk Register for 15 years. Its condition continued to deteriorate and its future became a cause for concern for the local community. Glasgow Building Preservation Trust GBPT worked exceptionally hard to secure the £4.1million needed for the building’s restoration and take on the risk as custodians for its faithful repair and transformation. This action has unlocked its potential and transformed the dilapidated structure into a vibrant new enterprise centre at the beating heart of the Parkhead community.
