Dunoon Burgh Hall
Shortlisted Category A: Best Rescue of an Historic Building or Place – under £2million
For 25 years, the residents of Dunoon have campaigned to save their Burgh Hall. At one point, the building was to be demolished, and later it was threatened with being turned into flats, but ultimately, Dunoon Burgh Hall Trust were able to put together the funding to renovate the building.
Today, the community own the space and it has become a hive of activity: a true cultural hub for the area. Since 2009, 46,000 people have visited the Hall to experience its cutting edge range of arts-based activities. Working with partners across Argyll and the West of Scotland, Dunoon Burgh Hall Trust is establishing itself as a pivotal venue for creative events, collaborations and opportunities.
